November Maternity Pictures for Eric & Rosemary

November Maternity Pictures for Eric & Rosemary

Setting the Scene

We met up with expectant parents, Eric & Rosemary on a chilly day for November Maternity Pictures. Eric had chosen Porecco College Center for their shoot because it was close to home and he liked the location. We’d shot at the location before and agreed. It’s a hidden gem in the middle of busy Erie, Pa. Sprawling lawns open up to rustic red barns and a quaint apple orchard behind an old wooden fence. The location is serene and beautiful. Rosemary told us she was hoping for sweet, country looking photos for their first baby.

Choosing the Perfect Attire

Rosemary chose a long navy dress with pink flowers for their November Maternity Pictures. Eric arrived in a plaid long sleeve shirt and khaki’s. Eric is kind of known for his love of sneakers. Of course, he showed up wearing his current favorite pair. While Rosemary said she liked the look of their outfits she wished she would have picked out an outfit to coordinate with a cute jacket. The day was chilly. We let her borrow a long cardigan we keep with us at shoots. In between posing we wrapped the mom-to-be in a fuzzy blanket she mentioned being grateful for. Her advice on choosing outfits is to plan accordingly, be prepared, and most importantly, just relax and have fun with it.

What They Showed Off

Eric & Rosemary brought along a copy of their sonogram and a pair of tiny FILA sneakers to their November Maternity Pictures. I wasn’t shocked about the adorable sneakers given Eric’s reputation. It was a sweet touch and made the session more personal. Knowing the couple from having provided Disc Jockey & Photo Booth for their wedding, we brought a funny sign for Eric to use. This dad has a great sense of humor and will be telling legendary dad jokes for decades. Eric holding the sign will be one of our favorites for years to come.

Wrapping Things Up

Rosemary was about 34 weeks along during their November Maternity Pictures. This is perfect timing for a photo shoot. Mom’s should be early in their third trimester. She told us they’re expecting their bundle of joy on December 10th. So far, she’s had a smooth pregnancy and Eric has treated her to a  pregnancy massage to help her relax. In addition Rosemary told us she went into her session feeling confident of her changing body and that despite the temperature her photo team was fantastic. She found the team to be upbeat and positive. This mom-to-be also appreciated the teams prep for the photo shoot. They came prepared with a list of poses and ideas to help the couple set the stage.

The Ideal Maternity Photo Shoot Outfits

Most pregnant women want maternity pictures taken to remember this special time in their lives. What to wear for your maternity photo session can be a daunting task. You want to look your best and feel comfortable too. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect outfit for your maternity pictures.

Maternity Pictures
Maternity Pictures

Dress for Comfort

Before we go over any other advice on outfits for your Maternity Pictures this step is the KEY. Always dress for comfort. This means not buying an outfit online that you can’t try on before your shoot. If you buy online get it earlier enough to make sure you can return it or buy another outfit if needed. If the outfit doesn’t fit and feel right you’ll be noticeably uncomfortable during your photos.

In addition, dressing comfortably means dressing for the weather. Winter and Fall Maternity Pictures are beautiful, but you need to make sure you’re wearing appropriate clothing. A fuzzy sweater or cardigan, a beanie and warm footwear will keep you happy. In spring and summer choose outfits that allow you to feel the soft breeze without overheating.

Choose the Perfect Colors

After you’ve figured out When to Take Your Maternity Photos and Where to have your Maternity Photo Shoot, you can better decide What to Wear. (See those link? That’s right! More help to plan the best shoot ever!) First thing you’ll need to consider is the season of the year you’re taking pictures. Try using colors that compliment the season. But, at the same time you don’t want to blend into the environment. So, next you’ll consider the location. It’s not the best idea to wear dark brown or green if you’re taking photos in a wooded area even if it is the fall. Think more vivid reds or purples. And if you’re outside in the snow you don’t want to disappear like an arctic bunny so avoid whites and creams. Lean more towards greens, reds, and blues. Blues in winter can make a really dreamy looking collection.

Maternity Pictures

Too Pattern or not too Pattern?

I’m not even going to beat around the bush on this one. Should you wear a patterned outfits during your maternity pictures? The answer is a resounding NO!

To begin with, it’s a basic photography rule to avoid patterns during photo shoots. Patterns can wreak havoc on your final images by causing distractions and weird visual effects that you’d rather avoid. And no amount of photo shop can fix some of those issues. Also, patterns are easy to clash. Fall photos are notorious for this problem with 5 people all wearing differnt patterns of plaid. It’s not cute. Also, patterns can date your images while solids are classy and stand the test of time.

This is even more true for expectant moms. I made this mistake at my own baby shower and I’ll never stop regretting looking like a clown in the photos. Patterns are not flattering on your baby bump. Solid colors have a way of showcasing your round belly in an elegant way you’ll appreciate later.

Show ’em What You Got

The final piece of advice I have for you during Maternity Pictures is to show off what you got! You heard me right. Avoid droopy or saggy outfits or loose hanging maxi dresses that don’t accentuate your baby bump. You’re taking these photos to document a milestone moment in your story. You don’t want to wear a bulky sweater or top that hides what you’re excited about. Most maternity dresses for photo shoots are made specifically to showcase that belly. Browse Amazon and communicate with your photographer before making a purchase. They’ll be able to tell you if the outfit you chose will work well for your shoot.

In conclusion, when it comes to maternity pictures, it is important to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. You should choose something that makes you feel pretty and confident. If you are not sure about what to wear, ask for help from your photographer. They have the experience and knowledge to help you pick an outfit in the right colors for your location and season. Lastly, have fun with your maternity pictures and enjoy this special time in your life!

Where to Take Maternity Photos?

Maternity photography is a popular way to capture the beauty of expecting mothers. As you plan your maternity photo shoot, you may be wondering where is the best location to capture these special memories? It’s first important to consider When You Will Take Maternity Photos. (There are some tips in that article.) That’s because the time of year may effect your final decision. But, here are five great locations for your maternity photo shoot to get you inspired!

Maternity Photo Shoot

The Beach or Lakefront

This is almost a no-brainer for those of us living in Erie, Ashtabula, or Chautauqua Counties on Lake Erie. The lake is a huge focal point of our lives. It’s the backdrop of so many moments day to day.

The shoreline is the perfect location during any season as well. During every season there are gorgeous sunsets over the water. In the summer you can go barefoot in the sand. In the fall find a lake cliff sprinkled with vivid leaves. In the winter the frozen lake looks mysterious and awe inspiring. Finally, in the spring life is blooming all around the water with soft petals and butterflies. Just remember that no matter which season you shoot in to dress appropriately for the weather. The fall and winter seasons on the lake are windy and chilly. And in the summer the sun can be harsh.

No matter what season you take schedule your Maternity Photo Shoot the lake is an ideal setting for you. It’s one of our favorite locations to shoot at and that’s why I listed it first.

Maternity Photo Shoot

A Park or Arboretum

I say Park and I know you Erie-ites think Frontier Park. Heck, I say Arboretum and you think Frontier Park. If you’re like me this park is a monumental part of your childhood. My school used to walk us over there weekly for activities and study. And, it is such an ideal place for a maternity photo shoot. It’s one of the most popular photography places in Erie County. With lush sprawling lawns, a creek, and gorgeous trees it’s beautiful every season.

Frontier Park isn’t the only outdoor park area that is a beautiful backdrop. Consider Asbury Woods where we took the image adjacent to this. Fields of wildflowers were so awe-inspiring. We loved it so much after this maternity photo shoot that we returned for some family photos later on.

Another hidden gem is McClelland Park in the Wesleyville area. While Frontier & Asbury are popular locations that may be crowded, McClelland is hidden away not far off of 38th Street. It’s perfect for some quiet moments. And you may meet a few friendly puppies.

Maternity Photo Shoot

Your Wedding Venue

I know this one will make you sit up and take notice. But this is one of the most unique places for a maternity photo shoot that I can think of. I’d like to say I came up with it on my own, but I’m not sure.

However, if you chose any of the amazing local venues we have near us you’d be amiss to skip this opportunity. Venues like Majestic Woods, Mound Grove, Lakeshore Vineyards, Quincy Cellars, and Whispering Trees all have breathe taking backdrops for a maternity photo shoot. In addition, you’ll be documenting your journey together in a place that’s embedded in your story.

The most important thing to remember when planning your maternity pictures at your wedding venue is that you need permission from the owners. You’ll have to verify that they don’t have any events booked the day you’d like to shoot. Also, for insurances reasons many venues do have a small fee associated with photo shoots happening on their property. This helps protect you in case of injury or accident while at their location. It’s always best to be respectful and ask.

Maternity Photo Shoot

At Your Home

What better way to capture this magical part of your journey than with a Lifestyle Maternity Photo Shoot. A lifestyle shoot basically means ‘captured in real life’. Invite your photographer into your home to capture you putting the nursery together. Imagine the memories you’ll be able to look back on. Your family will cherish being able to peer into this intimate and beautiful bonding time. In addition, years later you can share how much you already loved your child by going through these images together.

Another reason a ‘Homestead’ Session is great, is that you’re completely comfortable in your own surroundings. There is no time period that you have to settle in to a location you don’t normally spend time in. And most of us love our homes. We’ve decorated it the way we want and it expresses who we are elegantly. It’s one of the best ways to freeze this moment in time and preserve it for future generations. I highly suggest this type of shoot if you’re introverted or uncomfortable in a public location so you can better enjoy your session.

Maternity Photo Shoot

A Portrait Studio

I decided to include this option because I’ve had a few brides tell me “I’m an indoor girl.” when we’ve planned their engagement and wedding photos. It makes sense to me that not everyone relishes spending time outside. And, if you’re not an outdoor enthusiast it would be odd for you to capture your milestone moments outside.

There is nothing wrong with an indoor or studio Maternity Photo Shoot. In fact, there can be some perks! In the photo adjacent we were able to set a light up behind the backdrop to create a neat lighting effect to show off this mom-to-be’s belly. We would never have been able to pull this shot off outdoors. But being inside a studio allowed us to use tools not available at a location shoot.

Studio Maternity Photos Shoots may be more Editorial in style. That means you’ll look and feel more like a supermodel with a polished, sharp look than an outdoor session. In addition, many studios provide a selection of indoor backdrops, props, and sometimes even outfits you can use for your photos.

In conclusion, maternity photo shoots are a great way to capture this special time in your life. If you’re looking for some inspiration, consider one of the five locations mentioned in this article. Not only will you have beautiful photos to remember this time by, but you’ll also have some amazing memories of your time spent in these special places.

Timing is Key for Maternity Photography

Timing is Key for Maternity Photography

When Should You Take Maternity Photos?

When it comes to maternity photography, timing is everything. The best time for maternity photography is generally considered to be around 28-35 weeks, when the bump is starting to show and the skin is still relatively smooth. By this point, the mother-to-be should also feel comfortable in her new role and be able to enjoy the experience of having her photograph taken. There are several reasons why we suggest a Maternity Session during this time. While most of these are in general, each mother’s journey is unique.

Maternity Photography

Your third trimester begins at 27 weeks. And for most women that’s when you really feel good. You get a ton of energy back and you’re really glowing. In addition, early in your third trimester you can still move easily. Feeling good and moving to pose easily are 2 main reasons it’s a great idea for maternity photography during the earlier weeks of this stage of pregnancy. Any professional photographer is going to understand that you’re still carrying an adorable bowling ball in your belly and won’t ask you to get into awkward positions you can’t get out of. However, still being limber enough to twist and turn a bit to really highlight the best parts of you is key to a killer session.

Maternity Photography

The next 2 reasons we suggest Maternity Photography between 28-35 weeks is going to effect the overall look of your images. Typically by 28 weeks most women have a nice round belly. This should make it obvious that you’re an expectant mother. But during your third trimester, your belly ‘drops’. That means the baby shifts into position closer to the birth canal. And that drop changes the shape of your belly from a cute round basketball to more of a pear or tear drop shape. While, you can still take maternity photos after that drop occurs around 36 weeks, you’re photos won’t look as perky and cute. In addition, you’re going to start feeling uncomfortable moving around as baby is now settling into your hip area. It’s going to be harder to pose. The discomfort you feel will still be visible through your smiles. Remember that when you feel your best, you look your best. Speaking of looking your best…did you know there are rules about what you should wear at your Maternity Session? Some outfits are more flattering for expectant moms. Find out in our blog on What to Wear for your Maternity Pictures.

Top 5 Reasons to Take Maternity Photos

Top 5 Reasons to Take Maternity Photos

Why Take Maternity Photos?

When you’re pregnant, it feels like everyone is telling you what to do. You should eat this, not eat that. You should sleep on your left side, drink lots of water, and avoid any kind of stress. While all of these guidelines are important, it can be hard to remember to take time for yourself. That’s why maternity photos are so important. They give you a chance to celebrate your pregnancy and capture this special time in your life. Here are 5 Top Reasons you need to take Maternity Photos during this special time in your life.

Maternity Photos

To Capture the Beauty of Your Belly

Capturing the beauty of your pregnant belly is probably the number one reason woman take maternity photos. Your body is changing and growing in ways that you didn’t realize was possible. And, while you’ll never be quite the same again after this experience, that baby belly is gone quickly. I know it’s hard to imagine, but trust me you won’t have this round belly forever. I know it feels like you will.

Let’s be honest with each other. We don’t always feel like this round baby belly is beautiful. It’s especially hard to appreciate when your favorite jeans don’t fit. However, that’s why professional maternity photos are so important to your journey into motherhood. A professional maternity photographer knows how to pose you and your partner to make you look stunning even if you don’t feel it.

A professional photographer can also advise you on When to Take Maternity Photos so your belly is at it’s roundest.

Maternity Photos

To Have a Tangible Record of this Time

They say you won’t remember the aches and pains of pregnancy and childbirth. I’m not I believe them. I seem to remember a lot. Oh, who am I kidding. There are HUGE chunks of my life missing from lack of sleep. That’s another reason to have maternity photos taken. You’re going to have an unforgettable record of your pregnancy journey.

Trusting a professional photographer to doscument that journey is the key. Going back to our reason before. This is a time in your life when you’re already feeling tired and a bit unsure about life. Having a pro who understands how to make maternity photos fun while also making you look amazing is such a huge mood booster!

I look back on photos of myself that friends and family took on cell phones and disposable cameras. I don’t think I look my best. However, when I look at the photos that I primped for taken by a pro I can smile and enjoy the memories. It’s something I’ll never regret.

Find the BEST LOCATION for your Maternity Photos.

Maternity Photos

To Create Memories that will Last a Lifetime

Next, we’re revisiting what we mentioned in the previous reason. Creating lasting memories. Trust me when I say that these moments are fleeting. That being said, maternity photos are essential to preserving your memories.

Maternity Photos do so much more than capture a smile or baby bump. They paint a picture into how you felt. I know I mentioned some of the negatives about pregnancy before. But man oh man, youv’e got this miracle inside of you! You can admit that every once in awhile you catch your breathe when you think about it. These are feelings of awe and wonder that you don’t want to let slip by. The baby’s gentle kick or flutters that you feel. Those tender moments of love between the two of you. That’s what maternity photos are really all about. Capturing the feelings of this time before the busyness of caring for a newborn comes along. It doesn’t slow down or stop once the baby is in your arms. Freeze this moment of time while you can.

Maternity Photos

To Share Beautiful Photos with Family

If you’re anything like me, you’re bursting at the seams to share your big news with everyone you care about. Maternity Photos are perfect for making that announcement. I adore seeing my friends pregnancy announcements on social media. I really enjoy when I can tell they had an amazing photo session with a professional who made them look their best.

Those excited smiles and wondering glances are such a great way to warm the hearts of your loved ones. In addition, you’ll be getting them extra stoked for the birth of your little one as well. Every doting grandparent wants photos to show off to their friends. (I’m going to age myself here, but my own son’s maternity photos are in the mix!) I speak from experience of course.

Maternity Photos are great for cards, emails, social media, and always…prints for the wall. Share the joy and wonder with everyone you love.

Maternity Photos

To Document Your Journey for Generations

When I say Maternity Photos document your journey for generations I’m thinking mostly of your children and grandchildren. If this is your first pregnancy you may not know what I mean. But, if this isn’t your first blessing you understand. Kids LOVE to hear about themselves! I have sat down with each of my kids rapt attention and gone over my journey to becoming a mom. It pulls my heart strings thinking of their wide innocent eyes exclaiming: That’s me in your belly?

If I’m being honest with you, I did it to my own mom as a teenager. I’m not joking. I came across an old photo of my mom pregnant with me. It was so magical to think that it was before my mom met me but she was already in love with me.

Documenting these precious moments to share with your curious child is so important. And, if you’re really lucky you’ll be sharing them with THIER children in a few years. One day your gandchildren will be in awe and wonder realizing that’s their parent in your belly!

In conclusion, there are many reasons to take maternity photos. They will help you remember this special time in your life, they can be a beautiful way to share your news with family and friends, and they can be a cherished keepsake for your child’s future. If you’re on the fence about whether or not to take maternity photos, I hope this article has convinced you that they are definitely worth it!

Photoshoot Tips for Even the Most Camera-Shy

Photoshoot Tips for Even the Most Camera-Shy

9 Tips for Your Photoshoot

Do you need the best photoshoot tips? When you plan a photoshoot, you want only the best. You deserve to have high expectations for both yourself and the photographer taking your pictures. Knowing how to pose and move in front of the camera is no simple task, however.

Professional models make it look easy, but there’s a lot more to it than people think. Feeling comfortable in front of the camera is something that takes photoshoot tips and time adjusting to as well. If you’re new to modeling, photoshoots, or being in front of the camera in general, then you’ll want to do some preparation for your planned shoot.

Many photographers will be willing to give advice to those in need. Most of them actually enjoy helping their clients because remember, it’s their work and they want the photos to look amazing too. Don’t hesitate to ask your photographer for help during the photoshoot, but it’s also a good idea to come prepared by boning up on photoshoot tips.

In the guide below, you’ll find several pieces of advice including photoshoot pose tips, photoshoot outfit tips, and much more. Continue reading below to get started!

photoshoot tips
photoshoot tips

1. The When and Where

This is the most important photoshoot tip. When’s the best time to do your photoshoot? Where should the photos be taken at? There’s no one simple answer to these questions. The best time to shoot your photos will depend on the mood you want to create and the theme of your photoshoot.

Do you want to catch the sun right as it’s rising? Would you rather shoot during midday when the sun’s at its highest, or are evening photos more what you’re looking for?

To discover the best answers to these questions, feel free to discuss them with your photographer. Let your photographer know what you’re looking for and let them explain the best time of day for your photo needs.

Where you’ll take your photos will also depend on the theme of your shoot, what you want to capture, and what your own preferences are. For example, you can shoot in a studio, in nature, at a venue, or in another favorite spot. Again, communicate ideas with the photographer and the two of you can brainstorm.

2. Dressing the Part

Next photoshoot tip is clear. How will you know what to wear for your photoshoot? Gathering some inspiration from online content is a great place to start. You can use social media platforms to search for photos similar to the ones you want to have done.

Although you want to stay creative, original, and true to yourself, it’s not a bad idea to be inspired by other photos. Keep in mind you want to wear something you’re comfortable in as well. If you’re uncomfortable, it’ll show in your photos.

If you don’t normally wear a type of outfit and won’t feel comfortable in it, then choose something different for your first couple of photoshoots. You also want to wear something that matches your theme. Think about the when and where of the shoot and what you’re trying to capture.

Then, find an outfit that goes well with all those factors. Be sure to pack more than one outfit and several accessories also. You can always switch things up if needed.

Your photographer will also be able to provide you with advice and outfit ideas. They know what looks good for the type of photoshoot you’re doing.

3. Feeling Comfortable

Wearing the right clothes will help you feel more comfortable, but getting used to the camera may take some time. If you don’t have experience posing for a camera, then you may feel awkward at first. This is no big deal, however.

It’s normal! If needed, consider scheduling extra time to become comfortable with the photographer and in front of the camera. You may even want to ask the photographer about meeting with them before the shoot. The more acquainted you are with both the photographer and the camera, the more comfortable you’ll be.

The more photoshoots you have with the same photographer, the more your confidence and comfort levels will rise. Just keep in mind these things sometimes take time.

4. Practicing Your Poses

When you’re not sure how to pose, where to look, what to do with your hands, and so on, you begin to feel awkward and uncomfortable. This is one of those things that takes time. To help you feel more confident and more at ease when posing, be sure to practice beforehand. This photoshoot tip will help loosen you up in front of the camera.

Practice your poses in the mirror. Which poses do you feel the best doing? Look up inspiration online and on social media if you’re not sure where to start.

Practice these favorite poses a few times each day for a week or so before your photoshoot. When it’s time for the real thing, you’ll know exactly how to position yourself.

5. Communicating With the Photographer

Communicating with the photographer is an essential photoshoot tip. You should always feel comfortable speaking up and letting the photographer know what’s on your mind. You should also be open to hearing the photographer out.

Even professional models listen to photographer advice when shooting, so don’t feel discouraged if the photographer gives you some pointers during the shoot. They’ll help guide you during the entire process.

Above all, go with the flow. This means just go with it, don’t overthink it too much. Move using natural movements and what feels right to you.

You should also tell the photographer what you don’t like. Is there something you don’t want to show in your photos? This is normal and photographers understand so be sure to let yours know.

6. Moving Around

Staying in one position the entire time won’t give you a good variety of photos. They’ll all come out looking the same. Instead, move around during the shoot.

Make small, natural movements each time you hear the shutter sound. This way, you’ll have a variety of poses to look at, which means more options! Don’t forget to stay natural, though.

If you force a pose, then it’ll show on your face. Try to act as if you’re having a regular day out and about. Remaining relaxed in your photos will bring out the professional model in you!

7. The Props

Here’s a photoshoot tip I know from experience most people don’t think about. If you haven’t already thought about bringing some props with you, then do so now. Props are a great way to help you feel more comfortable. They also give your hands something to do when you’re not sure where to put them.

The props you bring will depend on the type of photoshoot you’re doing. You can ask the photographer about bringing some props and what they recommend. Your photographer might even have a few props of their own to bring!

8. Bringing the Essentials

Here’s another great photoshoot tip that gets overlooked. Pack a bag full of the essentials and bring it with you. What are the essentials? The answer to this question depends on a few factors.

For example, is the photoshoot for your children? Will the photoshoot be several hours long? Is the photoshoot outdoors?

Think about all the details of the shoot and then pack accordingly to keep children and yourself happy. A few healthy snacks, water, toys, and electronics are a good start. Playing your favorite music during the shoot can help you stay relaxed.

Bug spray and sunscreen are great to have if the shoot is outdoors.

9. Setting up the Details

One of the most important things to do is set up all the details with the photographer. The details of the shoot will have an effect on just about everything from what you’re wearing to when the shoot will be. Once you go over all of the details about the shoot with your photographer, you can then plan for the shoot.

When setting up the details, do be sure to ask the photographer about any questions you may have regarding the information given above. You can ask for outfit ideas, location advice, and more. Professional photographers will have all the answers you’re looking for.
